Oxspring United Juniors Football Club Coaching and playing philosophy

Coaching and playing philosophy

We are a club that will coach players with the technical and tactical skills required to be effective footballers, but we also educate our players in the values and attributes required to be successful individuals on the pitch and in the community.

Our players will have the football intelligence to adapt, change and develop to a number of positions, situations and team tactics. The club aspires to have a very similar playing style from our youngest team to our oldest. We appreciate this is not always possible due to the players at a coach’s disposal, the opposition or the teams’ strengths and weaknesses. However, we want all teams to play a style that is of high tempo, progressive and attacking. With the ball, we want players to be confident and brave in possession looking to pass the ball with pace and purpose, playing the majority of possession in the opposition half. Without the ball, we want our teams to press ‘high’ aiming to win the ball back at the earliest opportunity, ideally in the opposition’s half.

Ultimately, in games we want our teams to be brave, hardworking, organised and dominate possession and territory in the opposing team’s half.
