The FA is focused on implementing this programme of change for children and young people, using the power of football to build a better future for everyone involved.
The FA Respect programme was launched in 2008. Many seasons later it has slowly but surely had an impact. Whilst incidents in the professional game can grab the headlines, the underlying trend has been improved.
On field behaviour has improved – dissent cautions, cautions and dismissals are all constantly going down. Since 2008 the FA have managed to recruit and retain nearly 5,000 more referees. Having a qualified neutral referee has a real impact on the quality of the playing experience. The respect campaign has changed youth football for the better and led to a more positive environment in which children can enjoy and learn the game.
Much remains to be done to make sure all young players enjoy the game in constructive and positive environment.
